Campoamor:
This golf course and hotel is situated on the Orihuela Costa
and the complex includes a sports centre similar to that at
La Manga.
The clubhouse provides wonderful views over both the course
and the coast with La Manga clearly visible on any clear day.
The course is well established and has been well used by a
number of local societies although for the last six years the
course has gone through many problems with both the greens
and the fairways.

Say's:
"I have been visiting the Costa Blanca for six years and always
made a beeline for Campoamor for a game of golf.
Unfortunately during this period they have had on-going
problems
with both the greens and the fairways.
These problems still persist and the surface of the greens are
hard and pot marked and the fairways are hard and bare.
I have to say that at this moment in time the course is not
worth
playing for the € 60 that it costs and there appears to be
little
chance of an improvement in the near future.
The good news is that the clubhouse is excellent as are the
views BUT again the bar and restaurant costs are a little on
the
high side."

Directions: Travelling on the N332 from Torrevieja to Cartagena you pass
the Cabo Roig strip of commercial shops, bars and restaurants
and after passing Global Cars you take the next exit to the
right
and the slip road leads to Bricatodo DIY and the Golf factory.
Campoamor is signposted from this exit and just turn right and
follow these signs along a winding road for approx 6km until
you go over a small bridge (Las Ramblas on the left) and up to
a traffic island with the arches and entrance to the complex
directly ahead.
Once through the arch continue up the hill for approx 500
yards
and turn left at the first island and continue for approx 1km
you will see the course on both the left and right hand sides.
Continue to the next island with the sports centre on the left
and the clubhouse parking to the right.

The course score card and course review: I first came to this area of Spain six years ago and always played my golf as a holidaymaker at Campoamor and loved the clubhouse, the course and the general environment.
Unfortunately as you will see from the review below that times certainly have changed.
The clubhouse and hotel is magnificent with wonderful views of the course, which looks extremely good from a distance BUT unfortunately is not so good close up.
Since my first visit six years ago they have had continuing problems with the greens and the fairways and I am sad to report that the condition of the course is in fact the worst that I have ever seen it at present.
The current green fee is € 60 for a round of 18 holes and represents legalised pick pocketing at present.
I would rather give ‘her in doors’ the € 60 to go shopping, that is how bad it is.
The fairways are hard and bare and are the worst on the Costa Blanca and it is no fun seeing a good tee shot finish in a bare lie (they insist on no placing) or hitting the fairway on the right hand side only to run into a water hazard (almost under gravity only) on the left hand side.
The greens are ‘infested’ with different grasses, which represent a hard, broad bladed weed or have numerous holes (where these grasses have been removed) giving these greens the impression of being ‘waffle’ like.
Add to that illegal pin positions (one of our party putted five feet past the cup on the 18th hole and ran off the front of the green 40 feet away) and silly drop zones (one of our party was only 12 feet from the pin on the 18th hole but had to drop the ball 30 yards back down the fairway) and you begin to see the picture.
At the moment the best thing about the complex is the view from the clubhouse.
In summary while it grieves me to say it about a course that used to like so much, this course is not good value for money at present and so save your ‘pennies’ and play one of the newer courses which are in much better condition.
Hopefully, some time in the future, I can give a better report of Campoamor BUT do not hold your breath.
Hasta Pronto.
